Fraudulent Operator Caught in Global Affairs Services Scam

Recent reports on fraudulent Global Affairs services have brought to light the latest scam involving operators offering assistance with Home Affairs application procedures. For many individuals, the prospect of having to go to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) can easily bring on a bout of frustration and anxiety.

Long queues, system failures, struggles booking appointments, and inconsistent communication make it an especially daunting task for individuals with physical and time constraints. Hence, outsourcing is steadily becoming an increasingly popular option amongst South Africans who would rather avoid the hassle and frustrations that come with dealing with the DHA.

However, notorious characters taking advantage of people’s lack of knowledge when it comes to DHA procedures have left numerous individuals with considerable financial losses and nothing to show for it. One of these fraudulent operators, Gillian Abdool Jabar, has been confronted by eNCA’s Devi Sankaree Govender regarding their most recent exploits.

According to victims, Gillian has been charging clients outrageous prices in order to obtain documentation from the DHA and assist them during their application processes.

Upon review, immigration attorney June Luna has confirmed that Gillian’s claims and rates are nonsensical and do not align with the DHA’s standard procedures. As shown in the video broadcast, these fraudulent operators rely on an individual’s lack of knowledge to demand upfront payments without presenting any results, followed by a sudden cut of communication.

South African residents are encouraged to remain vigilant when dealing with outsourced operators. Before taking on these services, it is important for applicants to familiarise themselves with the standard proceedings and to report any suspicious activities to local police.
